Exams and chess

  • My friend Ilya is a student who always complained about being absent-minded and having trouble concentrating. Before an important session, he decided to try something new to train his attention and signed up for lessons with a grandmaster chess coach. We were all surprised because he had never been interested in the game.

But the effect was unexpected. After just a couple of weeks, he told me how he had learned to concentrate better: during chess games, he had to carefully calculate each move, and this skill carried over to his studies. The grandmaster chess coach gave him problems that required patience and logic, and this helped Ilya get used to long-term concentration.

As a result, he not only passed the exams successfully, but also fell in love with chess. Now he plays at the university with other students, participates in small tournaments and says that it was chess that helped him learn to manage his time and avoid rushing into decisions.
