What is the format for a manuscript for publication?

  • A manuscript has a standard form of presentation so that it can be presented professionally and easily. It starts with the title page which includes the title of the manuscript, names of authors, affiliations, and contact information. Then there is the abstract or a brief outline of the purpose of the study, methodology, findings, and major implications. Then there are keywords that assist in indexing your paper. The primary manuscript writing for journal publication is based on the IMRaD structure which includes:

    • Introduction
    • Telling background and aims
    • Methods
    • Results of presenting evidence in an understandable manner
    • Discussion, which means analysis of findings, comparison, and explanation of results

Other journals contain a Conclusion where the contribution is summarized. The paper is concluded with references in a form that should be used in the journal which is APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, etc. Tables, figures, appendix and acknowledgments are included as specified by the instructions of the journal. The correct formatting enhances the readability and can get your journal accepted.
